The introduction of new technologies into everyday life is no longer a novelty, as every day there are new features that simplify our lives. Imagine, for example, that you no longer need to change your SIM card at the operator’s office when you lose or replace your number, no need to buy a new SIM card to communicate abroad. It seems that nowadays it doesn’t seem to be a fairy tale anymore. And today we would like to tell you about the technology that will help to solve such, on the one hand, simple, but important issues! And this technology is eSim!

eSim

Firstly, let’s understand what eSim is! eSIM is a small chip inside a smartphone, the principle of which can be compared to the work of a chip at the cash register of a store: you put the gadget to the terminal and money is deducted from the card, but there is no physical bank card in the phone. As a result, your device stores only data about the SIM card. While there is no physical SIM card in the smartphone, but there is a built-in chip that stores information about the mobile operator, phone number, tariffs and so on.

In a nutshell, an eSIM provides mobile and internet connectivity just like a physical SIM card, the only difference being that it can’t be lost or broken because it’s built-in. But that’s not the only advantage of a virtual sim card, here are a few more:

  • You don’t have to open a slot in your device with a paper clip, pin, or other improvised means to start using an eSIM. All you need to do is activate the virtual sim card and enter the required information. You can connect the eSIM Plus with the help of an app and a couple of clicks in the phone settings.
  • You can store up to 5 numbers at a time in the memory of the eSIM. Not only that, but you can have a work number, a personal number and another number of a country you often travel to, for example. Additional features like mobile internet and SMS messaging can also be connected. Sometimes these features are included in the operators’ tariffs. You can switch between sim cards with a few clicks in the app.
  • You cannot lose your virtual SIM card, you can only lose your smartphone. The virtual card is always with you, as it is embedded in your phone. If your smartphone is stolen, fraudsters will not be able to get to your personal data or bank SMS, as the phone lock protects this information. In addition, a virtual card cannot be duplicated.
  • If you have a smartphone, tablet, and smartwatch that support eSIM, you can use one number on all these gadgets. Be careful, this feature is not available in all countries yet.
  • Thanks to the small eSIM connector, cell phone manufacturers will be able to integrate new features and new chips into the devices and better protect the phone from moisture on the motherboard.

The advantages of eSIM are many, but it is also worth paying attention to the disadvantages. There are only a few of them:

  • Not all smartphones support eSIM. So before you activate this service, make sure that your phone already has a built-in chip for a virtual SIM card.
  • If you plan to use eSIM, you will need to master cloud storage to keep all your data safe. Also, you won’t be able to transfer all the numbers from the physical sim card. While storing information and contacts in the cloud should make data transfer easier, many users may not be ready for this change.

For mobile operators, the introduction of eSIM simplifies interaction with subscribers, as it is now possible to connect new subscribers online. However, replacing a physical plastic card with an eSIM will also make it easier for users to change operators. Subscribers can easily choose the most favorable tariff for different SIM cards.

To summarize, eSIM is a new technology that looks more favorable than the current sim cards in the market. While connecting eSIM, new users should keep in mind the disadvantages in the form of device compatibility with eSIM. However, there are more advantages to virtual SIM cards at the moment, ranging from ease of connection to the cost of cell phone services.
