Jason Behrendorff IPL 2021
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have joined Australian fast bowler Jason Behrendorff in place of Josh Hazlewood in 2021 for the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-handed player has played 11 ODIs and seven T20s so far in his career.
Hazlewood became the third Australian to emerge from IPL 2021 after Josh Phillipe and Mitchell Marsh and expressed his desire to give himself the “best opportunity for mental and physical fitness” in this busy international season.
Although Southpaw has not worn the national jersey for almost two years, he has done well in the Big Bash League (BBL). In the 2020-21 BBL, Behrendorff has taken 16 wickets in most matches with an economic rating of 7.03. Josh Hazlewood was supposed to be one of the CSK team cards for the IPL 2021 tournament, citing Australia’s upcoming winter season and extreme fatigue as reasons for his exit from the IPL 14.
He later pointed out that 19 in India played a role in his absence from the IPL this season once the reasons were given. The Chennai Super Kings had previously contacted Billy Stanlake and Reece Topley to sign for Hazlewood. Still, concerns about COVID-19 and their regional contracts led to them refusing the offers to play in the IPL 2021.
