What Is John Demsey Meme Matter?
John Demsey Meme: Estee Lauder announced on Monday that CEO John Demsey had been fired, just days after he admitted to posting a racist meme on a personal social media account.
The statement was made in a letter sent to all of the company’s employees around the world.
Demsey, 65, received flak after posting an Instagram photo with the N-word and a joke about Covid-19, which has since been removed from his profile. He was initially placed on unpaid leave. Demsey, who handled Clinique and other cosmetic businesses, eventually apologized in another tweet.
“I am truly sorry and humiliated that I caused so much pain to so many people when I made the terrible error of reporting a (John Demsey Meme) racist meme without first reading it,” Demsey stated.
According to a company spokesman, he was told to quit the company and accepted to retire.
According to the letter, Estee Lauder made the decision as part of a two-year effort to become more inclusive and egalitarian. “We’re making progress toward our commitments to our employees, partners, and customers as a team.”
In the midst of a broader market sell-off, the company’s stock was down roughly 2% to $294.45 at midday Monday.
