REVIEW:
Told from a dual first-person perspective (Layla and Matthew), SEEKING REVENGE follows Layla Torian on her journey towards revenge. Layla’s life spirals out of control when her father, Luther Torian, manipulates us into betraying his family and the people he loves, but two years ago, his daughter’s life is better and Layla is our retribution for the sins of the past.
Meeting businessman and nightclub owner Matthew Langston awakens something deep within our heroine, but revealing secrets and lies reveals a deeper connection than anyone could have imagined. What follows is the building of a romance and relationship between Layla and Matthew, and the fallout as Matthew and Layla’s pasts collide, once again threatening everything and everyone Layla and Matthew love.
Layla Torian struggled with her place in the family for several years, always on the sidelines; shunned by her brothers, and barely in control. Needing revenge for the heartache and pain of nearly losing her daughter, Layla tries to find the people she believes are still destroying her life, only to meet Matthew Langston, a man with more knowledge of retaliation than Layla, in person.
Matthew Langston is a man of many secrets, and the lies of omission are about to break our heroine’s heart. As a result of his obsession with Layla, Matthew will do anything to keep the woman he loves safe.
The relationship between Matthew and Layla is based on various lies. Neither Matthew nor Layla wants to expose themselves—the who, what, and why of their need for revenge and protection—but an immediate attraction and desire draws our heroine into Matthew’s life.
With a history of “falling for” the wrong kind of man, Layla is about to discover that Matthew may be the worst of all. The $ex scenes are intimate, passionate and intense, but I don’t like the use of a certainfour-letterr word, even if it’s only used once, more for shock than anything else.
There’s a great cast of supporting and supporting characters, including Layla’s extended family of siblings and friends from the original Hunting Her series: Luke and Sarah, Decker and Keira, Anissa and Cole, Luca and Pennies; Layla’s daughter, Stella, and her half-brother Tobias, as well as the largely dysfunctional family of Matthew and his right-hand man, Bishop.
