Xenia 2021 Review
The third-generation Daihatsu Xenia is simply a less expensive version of the Toyota Avanza, which was unveiled yesterday. Daihatsu’s new Low MPV, which made its debut at this year’s Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), is practically identical to Toyota’s offering, but with some stylistic adjustments and a “simpler” kit list – the latter of which keeps the price down.
Price of Xenia 2021
The Xenia line begins with the 1.3 M MT, which costs 190.9 million rupiahs (RM55,681), followed by the 1.3 X MT, which costs IDR193.9 million (RM56,554), and the 1.3 X CVT, which costs IDR209.2 million (RM61,017).
Moving on, the 1.3 R MT is priced at IDR204 million (RM59,607) and comes with two cost options: an Astra Daihatsu Styling (ADS) package for an additional IDR9 million (RM2,629), and a special colour (SC) – Compagno Red – for an additional IDR1.5 million (RM438) – both of which can be specified together.
The 1.5 R MT costs IDR221 million (RM64,512), and the 1.5 R CVT costs IDR233.7 million (RM68,219), with the same ADS and SC optional add-ons as the 1.3 R MT. The 1.5 R CVT ASA, which costs IDR242.4 million (RM70,759) and only has the SC cost option, is at the top of the heap.

- The Xenia, like the Avanza, is built on Daihatsu’s New Global Architecture (DNGA), although it’s now front-wheel drive rather than rear-wheel drive. It also goes from a ladder frame to a monocoque chassis, with the same suspension arrangement – front MacPherson struts and rear torsion beam (previously a live axle).
- The engine lineup remains unchanged, with “1.3” models powered by a 1NR-VE 1.3 litre naturally-aspirated DOHC four-cylinder unit with Dual VVT-i that produces 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and 121 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm. Meanwhile, “1.5” models come with a 1.5-litre 2NR-VE engine that produces 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm at 4,200 rpm.
- Depending on the version, both engines can be combined with either a five-speed manual or Daihatsu’s D-CVT (the old four-speed auto is no longer available), a slight difference from the Avanza. The 1.3-litre engine in the Toyota MPV is only available with a manual transmission, whereas the 1.5-litre engine comes with both manual and automatic transmission options.
Styling-wise Review of Xenia 2021
The Xenia has the same basic silhouette as the Avanza. Still, it has its unique front fascia with a larger top grille (which houses the Daihatsu badge) and a smaller lower intake, which have diamond-pattern mesh.
There’s also a new bumper design with a flat, body-coloured surface separating the higher and lower air intakes and fog light surrounds that are more vertically oriented, similar to the Veloz. The only difference between the Xenia and the Avanza’s rear end is the Daihatsu badge, which sits atop a black trim connecting the taillights.
In the end, I conclude that the Xenia 2021 model is an amazing car in terms of looks and comfort.
